SCZONE And Saint-Gobain Break Ground For Solar Plant In Sokhna

In the latest development within the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of SCZONE, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for Saint-Gobain’s third glass production factory in the Sokhna integrated industrial zone. The expansive project, spanning 200 thousand square meters and backed by a total investment of 175 million euros, signifies a significant partnership between SCZONE and French investments.

Accompanied by esteemed dignitaries including Mr. Eric Chevallier, French Ambassador to Cairo, and Mr. Hadi Nassif, CEO of Saint-Gobain for the East Mediterranean and Middle East cluster, Mr. El-Dien emphasized the pivotal role of this endeavor in complementing Egypt’s plans to localize automotive industries in the East Port Said industrial zone.

Expressing his satisfaction with the collaboration, Mr. El-Dien highlighted SCZONE’s commitment to fostering industries aligned with clean energy and sustainable practices. He underscored the robust infrastructure, skilled workforce, and energy resources as key investment incentives, alongside financial support. He commended Saint-Gobain’s plan to export 60% of its production, in line with Egypt’s ambitious export goals.

Mr. Eric Chevallier echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the shared economic vision between Egypt and France. He hailed the construction of the factory and the solar energy plant as symbols of joint efforts towards emission reduction and future-oriented collaboration.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hadi Nassif reiterated Saint-Gobain’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, aiming to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050. He highlighted the abundant opportunities arising from Egypt’s industrial stimulation efforts, job creation initiatives, and capacity development.

Saint-Gobain already operates a glass production factory spanning 190,000 square meters and a mirror production facility covering 10,000 square meters within the Sokhna Integrated Industrial Zone, with the newly initiated project poised to further enhance the company’s footprint in the region.
